On January 20th, ANCC (Armenian National Committee of Canada) Western Region chairman Vahe Andonian was invited to a meeting with Canadian Member of Parliament Randy Kamp (Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission).
The meeting lasted for over half an hour. Vahe Andonian and MP Kamp talked about the upcoming federal elections, the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, and commemoration events in Canada and around the world.
Vahe Andonian brought up Turkish President Erdogan’s cunning decision to mark the 100th anniversary of the battle of Gallipolli on April 24th, the same day that Armenians mourn over 1.5 million Armenian victims of the 1915 Genocide, which was perpetrated by Erdogan’s ancestors.
He asked MP Kamp to pass the message to Prime Minister Harper to not accept the invitation to attend any such gathering which insults our Canadian values.
Mr. Kemp promised to support the Government of Canada’s position of recognizing and remembering the Armenian Genocide, and to be present for the April 24th activities on Parliament Hill this year.
