Organization to honor AYFers and Children’s Hospital LA at 9th Annual Banquet
BURBANK, Calif.—At its 9th Annual Banquet that will take place on May 21, 2017 at Anoush Banquet Hall, Armenian National Committee of America-Burbank (ANCA-B) will honor community youth activists, Nazeli Khodabakhsh and Ani Gharibian, along with Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, an LA area healthcare institution.
“We all recognize that for any community to thrive and to endure it needs to nurture its youth. CHLA and our youth leaders ensure that we educate our youth and keep them healthy, both physically and intellectually,” said Souzy Ohanian, co-chair of the Banquet committee. “On behalf of the Burbank community, ANCA-B is recognizing the positive impact our honorees have had on our youth.”
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to receive Johannes Lepsius Award
Founded in 1901, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a not-for-profit pediatric health care organization dedicated to creating hope and building healthier futures. Located in the heart of Little Armenia, CHLA provides world-class medical care in our community and around the world. They treat children from Los Angeles and around the world, including over 9,000 Armenian children in the last five years.
Through medical missions, telemedicine efforts and partnerships with the Armenian Bone Marrow Donor Registry and the Armenian Eye Care Project, CHLA’s staff of over 100 Armenian physicians, researchers, registered nurses and allied health professionals share their expertise and touch the lives of Armenian children locally and in Armenia.
Khodabakhsh and Gharibian to be presented Karekin Njteh Award
Nazeli Khodabakhsh: has been a member of the Armenian Youth Federation since 2011. She has served as the chair of the Burbank chapter, and is currently co-director of the Burbank AYF Juniors, and co-chair of the AYF Youth Corps committee. Nazeli earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College, and is pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at the University of Southern California Gould School of Law.
Ani Gharibian: Ani was born in Armenia, and grew up in Estonia and the United States. Her love of Armenian language, history and cultural was instilled in her from a young age. This interest continued to grow as she joined the AYF, where she went on to hold various positions at local and regional levels. She has been co-director of the Burbank AYF Juniors chapter since 2013.
Ani holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in History from UCLA and a Masters of Sciences in Environment and Sustainable Development from the University College London.

ANCA-Burbank to Honor Community Leaders at Annual Banquet
Annual Banquet to Continue Tradition of Honoring Community Icons of Burbank
(May 9) BURBANK. Calif.—The Armenian National Committee of America-Burbank (ANCA-Burbank) and its community of supporters will come together on May 21, 2017 at Anoush Banquet Hall to recognize several honorees and support the activities of the ANCA-Burbank.
Among the honorees at this year’s event will be Burbank City Council member Jess Talamantes and TV anchor Araksya Karapetyan. The banquet will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Ardy Kassakhian, City Clerk of Glendale and a lifelong Armenia-American activist.
“We feel privileged to honor these exceptional members of our community at our annual banquet and are proud to call them our friends,” said Vicky Marashlian, co-chair of the Banquet committee. “The Armenian American community in Burbank knows Jess and Araksya very well and is familiar with the positive impact they have made. The ANCA-B is thrilled to recognize their efforts on behalf of the community”.
Council member Jess Talamantes to be presented William Saroyan Award for Community Activism.
Jess Talamantes, longtime resident of Burbank, was first elected to City Council in 2009 and served as Centennial Mayor during the Burbank’s Centennial Celebration in 2011. He was recently re-elected by an overwhelming majority. He has had a long career as a Burbank Firefighter and has a wealth of experience in public service.
An active Councilmember, Talamantes serves on several boards and commissions, including as current President of League of California Cities – LA County Division, Chair of San Fernando Valley Council of Governments, as well as member of several committees and task forces in the Southern California Association of Governments.
His dedication to youth programs in the community, is well known and his leadership on the City Council was instrumental in the awarding of the CDBG grant that allowed the Burbank Youth Center to construct a basketball court and multi-purpose room.
Talamantes graduated from John Burroughs High School and attended California State University Los Angeles, where he earned a B.S. in Fire Protection Administration and Technology.
Araksya Karapetyan to be presented Hrant Dink award for Woman of the Year
Araksya Karapetyan has been an anchor on Good Day LA on Fox 11 since March 2012. She has been a reporter and anchor on several TV stations prior to joining FOXLA.
Karapetyan was born in Gyumri, Armenia and experienced the devastating earthquake of 1988 at the age of six. With the additional threat of an Azerbaijani attack and the poor conditions of the Armenian economy, Karapetyan and her family moved to the United States and settled in Southern California.
Karapetyan first became interested in journalism during a summer visit to Armenia, where she decided to interview people from all walks of life and understand the conditions of the country from the point of view of the average person. She continues to tell stories that touch the lives of everyday people.
Karapetyan graduated from S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications with a BA in International Relation and Broadcast Journalism.
Glendale City Clerk to M.C. the Banquet
Ardy Kassakhian was first elected as City Clerk in 2005, making him the youngest person ever elected to public office in Glendale. He continues to serve as City Clerk, having won a new four-year term in April. He has previously led the Armenian National Committee of America Western Region and its advocacy program.
Kassakhian holds a degree in history from UCLA and is a candidate for a Masters degree in Public Policy. He was also invited to Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Program for State and Local Government in 2009 and has also completed the Coro Foundation Executive Fellowship Program.
Kassakhian serves as Secretary of the Glendale Economic Development Corporation, designed to attract new businesses to Glendale and spur job creation.

Եոհան Լեփսիուսի անուան մրցանակը պիտի շնորհուի Լոս Անճելըսի Երեխաներու հիւանդանոցին, որ 1901էն ի վեր կենսական եւ որակաւոր առողջապահական սպասարկութիւններ կը տրամադրէ շրջանի երեխաներուն։ Փոքրիկ Հայաստանի սահմաններէն ներս գտնուող սոյն հիւանդանոցը, վերջին հինգ տարիներուն ընթացքին նման սպասարկութիւններ տրամադրած է աւելի քան 9000 հայ երեխաներու, միաժամանակ աջակցելով Հայաստանի մէջ մարդասիրական առաքելութիւններ կազմակերպող Հայկական ոսկրածուծի եւ Աչքի խնամքի ծրագիրներուն։ Նշենք, որ այս հիւանդանոցին մէջ կ՛աշխատին մօտաւորապէս 100 հայ բժիշկներ, ուսումնասիրողներ, հիւանդապահներ եւ բժշկական մարզի այլ արհեստավարժներ։
Նաեւ, Պըրպենքի ՀԵԴի «Վարագ» ուխտէն Նազելի Խոդաբախշն ու Անի Ղարիպեանը պիտի ստանան երիտասարդ գործիչներու յատուկ՝ Գարեգին Նժդեհի անուան մրցանակը:
Նազելի Խոդաբախշ 2011էն ի վեր անդամ է «Վարագ» ուխտին եւ եղած է անոր վարչութեան ատենապետը, իսկ ներկայիս, կրտսերներու համավարիչն է, ինչպէս նաեւ համաատենապետը՝ ՀԵԴի «Երիտասարդական ջոկատներ»ու յանձ-նախումբին։ Ան իրաւաբանութիւն կ՛ուսանի Հարաւային Քալիֆորնիոյ համալսարանին մէջ։
Անի Ղարիպեան ծնած է Հայաստան եւ հասակ նետած է Էսթոնիոյ ու Միացեալ Նահանգներու մէջ։ Ան մանկութենէն ի վեր յատուկ սէր ունեցած է հայերէնին, հայոց պատմութեան եւ հայկական մշակոյթին նկատմամբ, ինչ որ աճած է՝ ՀԵԴին անդամակցելու շնորհիւ։ Ան ուխտէն ներս ու շրջանային մակարդակի վրայ ստանձնած է զանազան պատասխանատու պաշտօններ եւ 2013էն ի վեր Պըրպենքի ՀԵԴի կրտսերներու համավարիչն է։

Պըրպենքի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբի այս տարուան Հրանդ Տինքի անուան մրցանակը պիտի յանձնուի Արաքսիա Կարապետեանին: Այս մրցանակը կը տրուի համայնքային սպասարկութեանց տարբեր մարզերէ ներս աշխոյժ մասնակցութիւն բերող կանանց: Արաքսիա Կարապետեան Մարտ 2012էն ի վեր, հաղորդավարն է Հարաւային Քալիֆորնիոյ «Ֆաքս» կայանի (թիւ 11) «Կուտ Տէյ Էլ.Էյ.» յայտագիրին, որմէ առաջ լրագրողի եւ հաղորդավարի պաշտօններ ստանձնած էր այլ կայաններու մէջ։ Ան ծնած է Գիւմրի ու ականատես եղած է 1988ի երկրաշարժի արհաւիրքին, ապա ընտանիքին հետ Միացեալ Նահանգներ հաստատուած է։ Լրագրութեան հանդէպ սէրը ծագած է Հայաստան կատարած իր այցելութիւններէն մէկուն ընթացքին, երբ սկսած է հետաքրքրուելու քաղաքացիներուն ամէնօրեայ կեանքով ու հարզազրոյցներ ունենալու անոնց հետ։
Իսկ Արտի Քասախեան, առաջին անգամ 2005ին ընտրուեցաւ Կլենտէյլ քաղաքի քարտուղար՝ հադիսանալով քաղաքի պետական պաշտօնի մը համար ընտրուած ամենաերիտասարդ անձը։ Ան անցեալ ամիս վերընտրուեցաւ այդ պաշտօնին։ Քասախեան նախապէս եղած է Արեւմտեան Ամերիկայի Հայ Դատի յանձնախումբի գործավար, իսկ հանրային քաղաքականութեան ճիւղին մէջ մասնագիտացած է Քալիֆորնիոյ համալսարանի Լոս Անճելըսի մասնաճիւղին մէջ, արժանանալով մագիստրոսի տիտղոսին։ Ան նաեւ Կլենտէյլի Տնտեսական զարգացման ընկերակցութեան քարտուղարն է։
