BRIGHTON, Mich. — The Armenian National Committee (ANC) of Michigan delegation discussed major topics of concern for Armenian Americans of Michigan’s 8th Congressional district in their meeting with Rep. Mike Bishop (R-Mich.-8) on Mon., Oct. 12.
Activists Dr. Hovig Kouyoumdjian, Armineh Mazian, and Lara Nercessian met with Bishop Monday afternoon and discussed local and national issues, which included the state of the Armenian community in Michigan’s 8th Congressional district, the Armenian Genocide resolution H.Res. 154, and the Royce-Engel bipartisan congressional sign-on letter which calls for renewed U.S. leadership in keeping the peace along the Nagorno-Karabagh line of contact.
Rep. Bishop recently signed the Royce-Engel bipartisan congressional letter – a peace proposal supported by the current administration, and by many representatives from both sides of the aisle.
“We thank Rep. Mike Bishop for his support for the Armenian community both in Michigan and in the United States, and look forward to advancing the relationship between his office and the Armenian American community here in Michigan,” said Nercessian, ANC of Michigan Chairperson.
The ANC of Michigan discussed many issues with the Congressman, including the self-determination and independence of the Republic of Nagorno-Karabagh (Artsakh), foreign aid to Armenia, and commemoration of the Armenian Genocide Centennial in Michigan.
The ANC of Michigan is planning to continue its robust series of meetings with lawmakers from Michigan’s federal and state delegations in the coming months.
