(ANC Australia) SYDNEY & MELBOURNE: The Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee has announced that Executive Director of the Armenian Legal Centre for Justice & Human Rights, Kate Nahapetian will be the international keynote guest for Australia’s 102nd anniversary events to be held in remembrance of the Armenian Genocide.
Nahapetian is the Executive Director of the Armenian Legal Center for Justice and Human Rights (Washington D.C.), leading Armenian legal efforts for justice and reparations for the Armenian Genocide, as well as the rights to self-determination for the Armenians of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh).
A lawyer by profession, Nahapetian has worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, then-Senator (later Vice-President) Joseph Biden, the Carnegie Endowment for International, and Mental Disability Rights International, and the Armenian National Committee of America.
“The Armenian world has become focused on shifting the narrative on the Genocide, from one about recognition to one about reparations,” said Hratch Loussikian of the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Committee. “Ms Nahapetian is a guest who fights on the frontlines in this new battle for justice, and we felt our community and guests would greatly benefit from what she has to share.”
Nahapetian will present her unique insight at the National Commemoration Evening of the Armenian Genocide in Sydney on April 24th, as well as the same event in Melbourne on April 23rd.

Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան 102րդ տարելիցի ոգեկոչման Աւստրալիոյ կեդրոնական յանձնախումբը յայտարարեց թէ Ցեղասպանութեան 102րդ տարելիցի միջոցառումներու գլխաւոր բանախօսն է իրաւաբան Գէյթ Նահապետեան:
Նահապետեան Գործադիր Տնօրէնն է Արդարութեան եւ Մարդկային Իրաւանց Հայկական Իրաւական Կեդրոնին, որուն նպատակն է իրաւական գետնի վրայ ճիգ չխնայել որ արդար հատուցում տրուի Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան, իսկ ինքնորոշման իրաւունք՝ Արցախի Հանրապետութեան հայութեան:

Այս ուղղութեամբ Նահապետեան պիտի ներկայացնէ իր յատուկ տեսութիւնը Ցեղասպանութեան Ազգային Ոգեկոչման Հանդիսութեան 24 Ապրիլի երեկոյեան Սիտնիի մէջ եւ 23 Ապրիլի երեկոյեան՝ Մելպուրնի մէջ:

MONDAY, 1ST MAY: Kate Nahapetian to address Armenian Genocide Commemorative Lecture at NSW Parliament House
SYDNEY: The Annual Wreath Laying at the Armenian Genocide Memorial “Khatchkar” at New South Wales Parliament House will take place on Monday, 1st May, followed by the Armenian Genocide Commemorative Lecture to be delivered by international keynote speaker, Kate Nahapetian.
Nahapetian is in Sydney from Washington D.C., where she heads the Armenian Legal Centre for Justice & Human Rights. Her lecture on Monday night is titled: “Examining The Armenian Genocide Under International Law – Justice and Accountability”.
A lawyer by profession, Nahapetian has worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, then-Senator (later Vice-President) Joseph Biden, the Carnegie Endowment for International, and Mental Disability Rights International, and the Armenian National Committee of America.
The Wreath Laying Ceremony will begin in the NSW Parliament House Peace Garden at 7pm, presided over by clergy, and the lecture will begin immediately afterwards at 7:30pm at the Parliament’s Theatre.
One bus has been organised to transport guests from the Armenian Cultural Centre (259 Penshurst Street, Willoughby) at 6:15pm, then return to the pick-up location following the conclusion of the event.
The Armenian Genocide Commemorative Lecture is organised by the Australian Institute for Holocaust & Genocide Studies.
