WATERTOWN, MA — The ANCA Eastern Region extends our deepest condolences to the Vartabedian family, the Merrimack Valley community, and beyond for the passing of Unger Tom Vartabedian. We will proudly honor him at the upcoming 10th annual banquet with the 2016 ANCA-ER Cardashian Award – the highest honor bestowed upon our community leaders – for his lifetime of service to the community.
His legacy of service, determination and sense of duty, his encouragement and positive outlook will forever be remembered and serve as a guidepost for generations to come.
As an active member of many organizations and causes, he not only participated but conscientiously served in leadership positions faithfully, and always mentored to lift up those around him. As member of the ANC of Merrimack Valley, he kept the Armenian Cause at the forefront of his many endeavors, regularly briefing local, state, and federal officials on issues of concern for the Armenian community.
He championed Genocide Education for students in local high schools and colleges, making sure nonArmenians were aware of the history and the facts. He wrote consistently in The Armenian Weekly to highlight people, projects and activities we all should be aware of, using his pen as a spotlight.
We mourn his passing, but are reminded of how much we can each do, by contributing our time and our talent to make this world a better place, as Tommy left it for us.
As our Unger, we were blessed to have Tommy Vartabedian in our community, our family.
