(Nederlands Armeens Comit\u00e9 voor Rechtvaardigheid en Democratie<\/a>) Den Haag, 5 april 2016 \u2013 Heden hebben de Samenwerkende Armeense Organisaties Nederland (SAO) in het gebouw van de Tweede Kamer een petitie over Nagorno-Karabach aangeboden aan de voorzitter van de Vaste Commissie voor Buitenlandse Zaken van de Tweede Kamer, mevrouw A.M.C. Eijsink. Hierbij waren voorts aanwezig de leden Omtzigt van het CDA, van Roon van de PVV, Sjoerdsma van D66, Servaes van de PvdA en van Bommel van de SP, welke laatste niet lang geleden Nagorno-Karabach bezocht.<\/p>\n

De Armeense delegatie bestond uit vertegenwoordigers van de verschillende Armeense organisaties die deel uitmaken van de Samenwerkende Armeense Organisaties.<\/p>\n

In de petitie wordt ernstige zorg geuit over de ontstane situatie en wordt het geweld van de Azerbeidjaanse kant scherp veroordeeld. Naast de militaire agressie werden daarbij ook burgers waaronder kinderen en ouderen slachtoffer; hierbij is een foto overhandigd van de wreedheden begaan op ouderen in Talish.<\/p>\n

De Kamerleden wordt gevraagd het geweld in krachtige bewoordingen te veroordelen, de minister van Buitenlandse Zaken te verzoeken dit ook te doen en als EU-voorzitter dienovereenkomstige uitspraken voor te stellen aan de Europese Raad van ministers van Buitenlandse Zaken. Tevens werd gevraagd om een actieve opstelling ten aanzien van het zoeken naar een vreedzame oplossing, zoals de Minsk groep van de OVSE reeds jaren tracht te bereiken, maar door Azerbeidzjan tot nog toe systematisch wordt afgewezen.<\/p>\n

Bij de overhandiging van de petitie werd door de delegatie gewezen op enkele punten die vaak vergeten worden in deze zaak, zoals dat van bezetting geen sprake is, als het om een gebied gaat waar Armeni\u00ebrs reeds millennia wonen. Ook werd gewezen op de toedracht van het conflict, waarbij de bevolking van Nagorno-Karabach als autonoom gebied, oblast, conform de bestaande Sovjet regelgeving rechtens en geweldloos zich los heeft gemaakt van Azerbeidzjan zodra dat land zich van de Sovjet Unie afscheidde, waarna het geweld van de Azeri kant losbarstte. Verder benadrukte de SAO op het extra gevaar dat veroorzaakt wordt door het feit dat Azerbeidzjan een ondemocratische staat is en ook gebruikt maakt van geradicaliseerde strijders als huurlingen.<\/p>\n

De SAO vraagt voorts dat Nederland meer alert en actief optreedt tegen de haatcampagnes van Turks- Azerbeidjaanse kant, die ook in Nederland tegen Armeni\u00ebrs plaatsvinden.<\/p>\n

Na afloop vond een ontmoeting met de Kamerleden plaats, waarbij een nadere uitwisseling plaatsvond over de achtergronden en oplossingen voor de gevaarlijke situatie in Nagorno-Karabach.<\/p>\n

(Dutch Armenian Committee for Justice and Democracy) The Hague, 5 April 2016 – Today, the Joint Armenian Organisations in the Netherlands submitted a petition on Nagorno-Karabakh to the Chairwoman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Parliament, Mrs. A.M.C. Eijsink. Several MPs attended this meeting: Mr. Omtzigt of the CDA faction, Mr. van Roon of the PVV faction, Mr. Sjoerdsma of D66 faction, Mr. Servaes of the Labour Party faction and Mr. van Bommel of the Socialist Party. The latter visited Nagorno-Karabakh not long ago.<\/p>\n

The Armenian delegation consisted of representatives of various Armenian organisations that are part of the Joint Armenian Organisations in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

The petition expresses serious concerns about the situation and sharply condemns the violence of the Azerbaijani side. In addition to the military aggression also civilians including children and elderly became victims. The delegation handed over a picture showing atrocities committed by Azerbaijani forces on elderly people in Tavush.<\/p>\n

The MPs have been asked to condemn this violence in the strongest terms, and also to ask the Foreign Minister to do so as well and to propose as EU chairman to the European Council of Foreign Ministers to express corresponding statements. The petition also requests an active attitude towards finding a peaceful solution, such as the Minsk group of the OSCE has been doing for years, but Azerbaijan has systematically rejected so far.<\/p>\n

During the submission of the petition the delegation mentioned some points that are often overlooked in this case, like the fact that it is not a matter of occupation, because Armenians have been living in Nagorno-Karabakh for millennia. The circumstances of the conflict are often forgotten, namely that the population of autonomous region or so-called \u201coblast\u201d of Nagorno-Karabakh lawfully and without violence and according to Soviet legislation seceded from Azerbaijan, after Azerbaijan had seceded from the Soviet Union, whereafter the Azeri violence erupted. The Joint Armenian Organisations pointed out on the additional danger that exists by the fact that Azerbaijan is an undemocratic state, and also makes use of radicalised fighters as mercenaries.<\/p>\n

The Joint Armenian Organisations also mentioned that the Netherlands must be more alert and must actively combat the hatred campaigns from Turkish and Azerbaijani side against Armenians, which also take place in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Afterwards the delegation spoke with the MPs and further exchanged views about the backgrounds and solutions to the dangerous situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
