(Consejo Causa Armenia del Uruguay<\/a>) En el d\u00eda de hoy, la C\u00e1mara de Representantes de Uruguay sesion\u00f3 en forma extraordinaria para conmemorar el Centenario del Genocidio Armenio de 1915-23, en el transcurso de la cual todos los partidos con representaci\u00f3n parlamentaria recordaron este crimen de lesa humanidad y reiteraron el compromiso del pa\u00eds en la lucha contra la impunidad.<\/p>\n

Ante unas barras colmadas de p\u00fablico, hicieron uso de la palabra los representantes nacionales Susana Pereyra (Frente Amplio), Jorge Guekdjian (Partido Nacional-PN), Guillermo Facello (Partido Colorado-PC), Daniel Rad\u00edo (Partido Independiente), Eduardo Rubio (Unidad Popular), Jos\u00e9 Luis Satdjian (PN), Conrado Rodr\u00edguez (PC), y Antonio Zoulamian (PN), abordando en sus alocuciones no s\u00f3lo los aspectos hist\u00f3ricos vinculados al Genocidio Armenio, sino tambi\u00e9n el aporte de la comunidad armenia al Uruguay y cuestiones relativas al presente y futuro de la naci\u00f3n armenia.<\/p>\n

La diputada Pereyra destac\u00f3 la trascendencia de la \u201cmemoria ejemplar\u201d de la comunidad armenia y la historia de su lucha por la Justicia en el Uruguay. A su vez, refiri\u00f3 a la amistad y el respeto que el pueblo armenio profesa por Uruguay por haber acogido a los sobrevivientes del Genocidio y reconocido por primera vez a nivel internacional el crimen cometido por el Estado turco a trav\u00e9s de la Ley N\u00ba 13.326, en 1965. A modo de ejemplo de esa hermandad, record\u00f3 una an\u00e9cdota de su experiencia como observadora internacional de las elecciones parlamentarias en la Rep\u00fablica de Nagorno Karabagh, cuando en un remoto circuito rural en las monta\u00f1as de Karabagh, los votantes se acercaron espont\u00e1neamente a abrazarla al enterarse que era uruguaya.<\/p>\n

Por su parte, el diputado Guekdjian, analiz\u00f3 jur\u00eddicamente el crimen de Genocidio y su aplicaci\u00f3n al caso armenio, ofreciendo detalles hist\u00f3ricos sobre la ejecuci\u00f3n del mismo cien a\u00f1os atr\u00e1s. \u201dMi propia madre, siendo una ni\u00f1a de apenas 8 a\u00f1os, salv\u00f3 su vida escondi\u00e9ndose en una cueva del desierto, luego de varios d\u00edas sin probar alimentos\u201d record\u00f3 el diputado de origen armenio, integrando su historia familiar con la rese\u00f1a de los testimonios de los legisladores que en 1965 aprobaron la ley que establec\u00eda el \u201dD\u00eda de Recordaci\u00f3n de los M\u00e1rtires Armenios\u201d.<\/p>\n

Refiriendo a la lucha contra el negacionismo, el diputado Facello conden\u00f3 la actitud de Turqu\u00eda indicando que \u201cSuiza ha aprobado una ley donde se castiga la negaci\u00f3n del Genocidio Armenio, Francia ha discutido una ley de similares caracter\u00edsticas, en cambio, otros pa\u00edses proh\u00edben el uso de la palabra genocidio\u201d, en alusi\u00f3n a la distorsi\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica y limitaciones a la libertad de expresi\u00f3n que impone el r\u00e9gimen de Ankara.<\/p>\n

A su turno, respondiendo el agravio del presidente de Turqu\u00eda Recep Tayip Erdogan, quien d\u00edas atr\u00e1s solicit\u00f3 pruebas de la existencia del Genocidio a la Di\u00e1spora Armenia, el diputado Rad\u00edo expuso documentos y testimonios que dan cuenta del plan estatal de exterminio del pueblo armenio por parte del gobierno de los J\u00f3venes Turcos.<\/p>\n

\u201cLa naci\u00f3n armenia no necesita de ninguna propaganda en una camiseta de f\u00fatbol, porque aqu\u00ed est\u00e1 el Parlamento Uruguayo recordando, igual que ayer.(\u2026) Y lo hacemos sin culpa, sin complejos y sin vacilaciones, porque sabemos que las manos que hoy se tienden solidarias, igual que las que se levantaron hace cincuenta a\u00f1os, no se manchan con petr\u00f3leo\u201d enfatiz\u00f3 Rad\u00edo, despertando el aplauso espont\u00e1neo de los concurrentes.<\/p>\n

Rad\u00edo invit\u00f3 a \u201cresistir las d\u00e1divas demasiado generosas y los lobbys poderosos que apuntan sospechosamente a nuestro pa\u00eds\u201d y honrar la hist\u00f3rica hermandad entre los pueblos de Armenia y Uruguay dando nuevos pasos de respaldo a la Causa Armenia en materia legislativa, con el objetivo de que \u201cno le puedan arrancar un ala a esa paloma herida\u201d.<\/p>\n

El representante de Unidad Popular, Eduardo Rubio, destac\u00f3 el hero\u00edsmo del pueblo armenio a lo largo de su historia, reconoci\u00f3 el aporte de la comunidad armenia al Uruguay y distingui\u00f3 la pol\u00edtica negacionista de Turqu\u00eda de la actitud de amplios sectores del pueblo turco que se suman al reconocimiento de la verdad hist\u00f3rica en su pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n

Jos\u00e9 Luis Satdjian, diputado integrante de la comunidad armenia expres\u00f3 el agradecimiento de los uruguayos de origen armenio hacia el pa\u00eds que acogi\u00f3 a sus antepasados. A la vez, record\u00f3 que la consecuencia directa del negacionismo es el asedio continuo ejercido por Turqu\u00eda y Azerbaiy\u00e1n contra las Rep\u00fablicas de Armenia y Nagorno Karabagh, e invit\u00f3 a las autoridades uruguayas a promover el di\u00e1logo y la resoluci\u00f3n pac\u00edfica de los conflictos que amenazan la estabilidad de la regi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

Conrado Rodr\u00edguez por su parte, valor\u00f3 especialmente en su alocuci\u00f3n los aportes de la comunidad armenia al Uruguay y su integraci\u00f3n en todos los \u00e1mbitos de la sociedad.<\/p>\n

Para concluir, el diputado Antonio Zoulamian denunci\u00f3 la actual situaci\u00f3n de ocupaci\u00f3n por parte de Turqu\u00eda de las regiones hist\u00f3ricamente armenias donde se perpetr\u00f3 el Genocidio Armenio, y augur\u00f3 su pronta restituci\u00f3n a la Rep\u00fablica de Armenia.<\/p>\n

Uruguay House of Representatives Held a Special Session Devoted to the Armenian Genocide Centennial <\/strong><\/p>\n

(PRENSA ARMENIA) The House of Representatives of Uruguay held a special session on Wednesday April 15 to commemorate the Armenian Genocide Centennial. All parliamentary parties recalled this crime against humanity and reiterated the country’s commitment in the fight against impunity, according to the Armenian National Committee of Uruguay.<\/p>\n

With a large public attendance, representatives Susana Pereyra, Jorge Guekdjian, Guillermo Facello, Daniel Radio, Eduardo Rubio, Jose Luis Satdjian, Conrado Rodriguez and Antonio Zoulamian gave speeches about the historical aspects related to the Armenian Genocide and the contribution of the Armenian community in Uruguay, as well as issues concerning the present and future of the Armenian nation.<\/p>\n

Deputy Susana Pereyra stressed the importance of the “exemplary memory” of the Armenian community and the history of their struggle for justice in Uruguay. She referred to the friendship and respect that the Armenian people had for the country for having received the survivors of the Genocide and being the first State to recognize the crime committed by the Turkish State through Law No. 13,326 in 1965. As an example of that brotherhood, she recalled an anecdote about her experience as an international observer of the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh, when in a remote rural circuit in the mountains of Karabagh, voters spontaneously came to embrace her after hearing that she was Uruguayan.<\/p>\n

Deputy Jorge Guekdjian analyzed the crime of genocide and its application to the Armenian case from a legal perspective. “My own mother, as a child of only eight years, saved her life by hiding in a desert cave, after several days without food,” recalled the Deputy of Armenian origin, integrating his family history with the review of the testimony of the lawmakers in 1965 that passed the law establishing the “Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Martyrs”.<\/p>\n

Referring to the fight against Holocaust denial, Deputy Guillermo Facello condemned the attitude of Turkey stating that “Switzerland has passed a law where the denial of the Armenian Genocide is punished and France has discussed a similar law. However, some countries prohibit the use of the word genocide,” referring to the historical distortion and limitations on freedom of expression imposed by the Ankara regime.<\/p>\n

Deputy Daniel Radio responded to the statements of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who asked the Armenian Diaspora to show evidence of the genocide. “The Armenian nation doesn’t need propaganda in a football shirt, because it has the Uruguayan Parliament to remember. And we do it without guilt, without complexes and without hesitation, because we know that the hands that today are showing solidarity, as they did fifty years ago, are not stained with oil,” emphasized Radio, awakening the spontaneous applause of the audience. Radio called to “resist the generous gifts and powerful lobbies that approach suspiciously to our country,” and honor the historical brotherhood between the peoples of Armenia and Uruguay by taking new steps to support the Armenian Cause in the legislation.<\/p>\n

Deputy Eduardo Rubio, emphasized the heroism of the Armenian people throughout their history, acknowledging the contribution of the Armenian community in Uruguay and separated the Turkish denialist policy attitude from the broad sectors of the Turkish people who join the recognition of the historical truth in their country.<\/p>\n

Deputy Jose Luis Satdjian expressed the gratitude of Uruguayans of Armenian origin to the country that welcomed their ancestors. At the same time, he recalled that the direct consequence of denial is the continuing siege exerted by Turkey and Azerbaijan on the Republics of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, and invited the Uruguayan authorities to promote dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts that threaten the stability of the region.<\/p>\n

Deputy Conrado Rodriguez appreciated the contributions of the Armenian community in Uruguay and its integration into all areas of society.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Deputy Antonio Zoulamian denounced the current occupation of the historically Armenian regions by Turkey, where the Armenian Genocide was committed, and predicted their prompt return to the Republic of Armenia.
