El Honorable Concejo Deliberante de R\u00edo Gallegos resolvi\u00f3 el jueves 9 de abril nombrar “Centenario del genocidio contra el pueblo armenio” a una plaza de la ciudad. Se trata de la primera vez que una plaza en Argentina obtiene una denominaci\u00f3n donde expl\u00edcitamente se habla del genocidio contra el pueblo armenio perpetrado por el Estado turco hace cien a\u00f1os, sum\u00e1ndose a la “Plaza monumento a las V\u00edctimas del Genocidio Armenio” situada en Caracas, Venezuela.<\/p>\n

Durante esa misma jornada, la C\u00e1mara de Diputados Provincial sancion\u00f3 por unanimidad la declaraci\u00f3n de reconocimiento y adhesi\u00f3n por el Centenario del Genocidio Armenio, y adem\u00e1s declar\u00f3 de “inter\u00e9s provincial la Muestra Fotogr\u00e1fica ‘Centenario del Genocidio Armenio-Pasado y Presente de un Crimen Impune’, organizada por la comunidad Armenia de Santa Cruz, el Consejo Nacional Armenio<\/a> y el Instituto contra la Discriminaci\u00f3n, la Xenofobia y el Racismo (INADI) Santa Cruz, que se realizar\u00e1 en la sala de las Columnas del Complejo Cultural Santa Cruz desde el 24 de abril hasta el 6 de mayo del presente a\u00f1o, al cumplirse el cent\u00e9simo aniversario de este hecho aberrante e impune que enluta a la humanidad”. Cabe recordar que Santa Cruz adhiri\u00f3 a la Ley Nacional 26.199 a trav\u00e9s de la Ley Provincial 2.984, y posteriormente el municipio de R\u00edo Gallegos lo hizo en 2010 por medio de una ordenanza.<\/p>\n

Alejandro Avakian (foto), delegado del Consejo Nacional Armenio en Santa Cruz, record\u00f3 en la C\u00e1mara legislativa los or\u00edgenes del trabajo de la comunidad en la provincia, inicialmente con el objetivo de nombrar Armenia a una calle de R\u00edo Gallegos. Habiendo cumplido esa tarea, el trabajo se orient\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n a la realizaci\u00f3n de actividades acad\u00e9micas y culturales, para las cuales, se\u00f1al\u00f3 Avakian, siempre han brindado apoyo institucional el Concejo Deliberante, la Legislatura, la UNPA y el INADI. Asimismo, afirm\u00f3 que los importantes esfuerzos realizados por la comunidad y las instituciones que acompa\u00f1an sus iniciativas se orientan a que la Rep\u00fablica de Turqu\u00eda “se encuentre sola frente a su negaci\u00f3n del pasado, ya que el genocidio merece el reconocimiento y una reparaci\u00f3n en sus diversas fases”.

\nRio Gallegos Names “Centenary of Genocide Against the Armenian People” Square<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Honorable Council of Rio Gallegos, in Santa Cruz, Argentina, decided on Thursday April 9 to name a city square “Centenary of Genocide Against the Armenian People”. This is the first time a place in Argentina gets a name which explicitly speaks about the Armenian Genocide, along with the “Square Monument to the Victims of the Armenian Genocide” located in Caracas, Venezuela.<\/p>\n

During that same day, the House of Representatives of Santa Cruz unanimously passed a Provincial statement recognition and adhesion to the Armenian Genocide Centennial activities, and also declared of “provincial interest” a photo exhibition organized by the Armenian National Committee of South America.<\/p>\n

Alejandro Avakian (photo), representative of the Armenian National Committee in Santa Cruz, stated that the efforts of the community and institutions that accompany their efforts are oriented to “isolate Turkey in its denial of the past”.<\/p>\n

This week, the House of Representatives of Argentina passed a statement that conveys “solidarity with the people and the Armenian community of Argentina to commemorate the 24th April the 100th anniversary of the genocide”.<\/p>\n

Santa Cruz resolution adds to the previous recognitions of the Legislatures of the City of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Cordoba and Chubut that expressed their commitment and solidarity to the activities carried out by the Armenian community in Argentina.<\/p>\n
