(Prensa Armenia) Luego de la noticia, dada a conocer por Prensa Armenia, de que la diputada del PRO, Alejandra Caballero, hab\u00eda preparado un pol\u00e9mico proyecto de ley en la Legislatura porte\u00f1a para que se denomine “Rep\u00fablica de Azerbaiy\u00e1n” a un predio del barrio de Colegiales, la diputada decidi\u00f3 finalmente dar marcha atr\u00e1s con el proyecto.<\/p>\n

“Me siento muy cercana a la querida comunidad armenia, a quienes acompa\u00f1o en su dolor, en la memoria viva y en la reivindicaci\u00f3n permanente del cruel genocidio armenio ocurrido hace 99 a\u00f1os; pero sobre todo me siento cercana por mis amigos con los que compartimos valores, me ense\u00f1aron algunas de sus tradiciones y con los que disfruto desde hace muchos a\u00f1os de su alegr\u00eda y por supuesto de su exquisita comida”, declar\u00f3 Caballero el mi\u00e9rcoles 10 de septiembre.<\/p>\n

“Por una confusi\u00f3n de mi parte con Azerbaiy\u00e1n comet\u00ed el error de firmar un proyecto, entre varios, para denominar espacios p\u00fablicos de nuevos pa\u00edses, pero que no fue presentado y por supuesto no presentar\u00e9. Me siento apenada y me disculpo con quienes pudieran haberse sentido afectados y ofendidos por mi equivocaci\u00f3n y les agradezco profundamente a mis amigos que me alertaron sobre mi descuido”, aclar\u00f3 la diputada.<\/p>\n

Entre los fundamentos del proyecto, se dec\u00eda que Azerbaiy\u00e1n hab\u00eda “logrado pacificar la regi\u00f3n”, lo que gener\u00f3 que Carolina Karagueuzian, directora del Consejo Nacional Armenio de Sudam\u00e9rica<\/a> en Buenos Aires, explicara que “en realidad tiene una pol\u00edtica de boicot contra las mediaciones en el conflicto con Karabaj y su presidente amenaza continuamente con reanudar la guerra. Por otra parte, el presidente de Azerbaiy\u00e1n declar\u00f3 el 3 de septiembre pasado que Turqu\u00eda y Azerbaiy\u00e1n trabajar\u00e1n juntos para ‘acabar con el mito del Genocidio Armenio’ en el 2015, a\u00f1o del centenario del Genocidio. Es inadmisible que la Ciudad de Buenos Aires otorgue un espacio para que el lobby azer\u00ed contin\u00fae difundiendo su propaganda negacionista, justamente en un momento en que la ciudad se prepara para conmemorar los 100 a\u00f1os de este crimen contra la humanidad”.<\/p>\n

Presentan proyecto en la Legislatura porte\u00f1a para homenajear a Azerbaiy\u00e1n, 9.9.14<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Prensa Armenia) La diputada Alejandra Caballero (PRO) present\u00f3 hoy un proyecto de ley en la Legislatura porte\u00f1a para que se denomine “Rep\u00fablica de Azerbaiy\u00e1n” a un predio del barrio de Colegiales.<\/p>\n

“En reconocimiento al valor y la autodeterminaci\u00f3n del pueblo de Azerbaiy\u00e1n”, los fundamentos del proyecto plantean que “los primeros a\u00f1os de independencia fueron eclipsados por la guerra de Nagorno Karabaj con su vecina Armenia”, mientras que, en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os, “Azerbaiy\u00e1n no solo ha logrado pacificar la regi\u00f3n sino hacer grandes esfuerzos para abrirse al mundo formando parte de varias organizaciones internacionales, logrando una estabilidad econ\u00f3mica y pol\u00edtica para su pueblo”.<\/p>\n

El proyecto de ley, que pasar\u00e1 por la comisi\u00f3n de Cultura, gener\u00f3 airadas cr\u00edticas dentro de la comunidad armenia: “Dentro de la aparente neutralidad del proyecto se esconde una estrategia m\u00e1s amplia por parte de las autoridades de Azerbaiy\u00e1n, quienes buscan lavar su imagen y ocultar sus constantes violaciones a los derechos humanos. La embajada de Azerbaiy\u00e1n en Argentina se abri\u00f3 espec\u00edficamente, seg\u00fan sus propios diplom\u00e1ticos, para confrontar con los ciudadanos argentinos de origen armenio, quienes hace casi 100 a\u00f1os mantienen una lucha activa contra la impunidad de los cr\u00edmenes de lesa humanidad”, explic\u00f3 Carolina Karagueuzian, directora del Consejo Nacional Armenio de Sudam\u00e9rica en Buenos Aires.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, Karagueuzian record\u00f3 que “la diplomacia azer\u00ed intent\u00f3 llevar a cabo un proyecto similar en la Ciudad de M\u00e9xico hace 2 a\u00f1os, cuando se quiso instalar una estatua del exdictadur Heydar Aliyev, padre del actual presidente azer\u00ed, Ilham Aliyev. Cuando la comunidad armenia local present\u00f3 sus argumentos en contra, las autoridades locales decidieron dar marcha atr\u00e1s con el proyecto. Tambi\u00e9n, en 2010, el gobierno porte\u00f1o, gracias a la acci\u00f3n de la comunidad armenia, cancel\u00f3 la colocaci\u00f3n de una estatua de Mustaf\u00e1 Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, uno de los m\u00e1ximos reponsables del genocidio contra los armenios”.<\/p>\n

Buenos Aires City Legislature Discards Project to Name a “Republic of Azerbaijan” Square<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Prensa Armenia) The legislative council of Buenos Aires, Argentina, decided to discard a draft project to name a square in the neighborhood of Colegiales as “Republic of Azerbaijan” on Wednesday 10 September.<\/p>\n

The bill drew a lot of criticism within the Armenian community, as the grounds of the project said that Azerbaijan’s early years of independence “were overshadowed by the Nagorno-Karabakh War with neighboring Armenia,” while, in recent years, “Azerbaijan had not only succeeded in pacifying the region but also is making great efforts to open up to the world as part of various international organizations, achieving economic and political stability for its people.”<\/p>\n

Carolina Karagueuzian, director of the Armenian National Committee of South America<\/a> in Buenos Aires, was the first to raise her voice: “Within the apparent neutrality of the project there is a broader strategy hidden by the Azerbaijani authorities, who seek to clean up their image and conceal their constant violations of human rights. Azerbaijan’s embassy in Argentina was specifically opened to confront Argentine citizens of Armenian descent, who maintain an active struggle against impunity of crimes against humanity for nearly 100 years”.<\/p>\n

“The project said that Azerbaijan managed to pacify the region, when in fact Azerbaijan authorities boycott the mediations in the Karabakh issue and its president continuously threatens to resume the war. Moreover, Azerbaijani President declared on September 3 that Turkey and Azerbaijan will work together to ‘dispel the myth of the Armenian Genocide’ in 2015, the centenary of the Genocide. It is unacceptable for the City of Buenos Aires to grant a space for the Azeri lobby to continue disseminating their denialist propaganda, just when the city prepares to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this crime against humanity”, added Karagueuzian.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Karagueuzian recalled that “the Azeri diplomacy attempted to carry out a similar project in Mexico City two years ago. Additionally, in 2010, through the action of the Armenian community the Buenos Aires City Government canceled the installation of a statue of Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk.”<\/p>\n

After the news broke through this agency, Deputy Alejandra Caballero, author of the project, made it clear that she would not submit it in the Legislature: “I we feel very close to the beloved Armenian community, I accompany them in their pain, in living memory and the constant claim of the cruel Armenian Genocide 99 years ago,” said Caballero. “I signed the project mistakenly, among many, to name public spaces for other countries.
