Den Haag 27 juni 2014 \u2013 De Samenwerkende Armeense Organisaties, te weten de Federatie Armeense Organisaties Nederland (FAON) en het Nederlands Armeens Comit\u00e9 voor Rechtvaardigheid en Democratie<\/a> (Hay Tad), hebben vandaag aangifte gedaan tegen de organisatoren, sprekers en deelnemers van een Turkse demonstratie op 1 juni 2014 in Almelo die gericht was tegen het genocidemonument op het priv\u00e9 terrein van de Armeense Kerk in Almelo. Tijdens de demonstratie met zo\u2019n 3000 deelnemers uit verschillende steden van Nederland werd door de demonstranten in diverse bewoordingen de Armeense genocide ontkend. Ook werden anti-Armeense leuzen gescandeerd.<\/p>\n

Volgens de Samenwerkende Armeense Organisaties is er sprake van groepsbelediging, discriminatie en aanzetten tot haat tegen het Armeense volk, waarbij het artikel 137 van het Wetboek van Strafrecht zijn overtreden.<\/p>\n

Over de demonstratie zijn door de Kamerleden Omtzigt (CDA), Van Bommel (SP), Voordewind (CU), van der Staaij (SGP) en de Roon (PVV) schriftelijke vragen gesteld aan de Minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, Minister van Sociale Zaken en Werkgelegenheid en Minister van Veiligheid en Justitie. Behalve over de ontkenning van de Armeense genocide gaan de vragen o.a. ook over de organisatie van de demonstratie, die blijkens pamfletten uitging van Diyanet, het \u201cPresidium voor Godsdienstzaken\u201d van Turkije, waarin ook gratis busvervoer naar de demonstratie door deze organisatie werd aangeboden.<\/p>\n

Over de Armeense genocide bestaat in wetenschappelijke kring internationale consensus. Het Nederlandse parlement is in 2004 de Armeense genocide unaniem erkend (motie Rouvoet).<\/p>\n

\nThe Hague, 27 June 2014 \u2013 The Joint Armenian Organisations, namely the Federation of Armenian Organisations in the Netherlands (FAON) and Dutch Armenian Committee for Justice and Democracy (Hay Tad), have today reported the organisers, speakers and participants of a Turkish rally on 1 June 2014 in Almelo to the police. The rally was intended to be a demonstration against the Genocide memorial recently erected on the private grounds of the Armenian Church in Almelo, however, it turned into anti-Armenian chanting and denial of the Armenian Genocide. Roughly 3000 protestors gathered in Almelo from cities all over the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

According to the Joint Armenian Organisations, the participants of the rally are guilty of group defamation, discrimination, and incitement to hatred of the Armenian people, meaning that Article 137 of the Criminal Code of the Netherlands was violated.<\/p>\n

Written questions about the demonstration were submitted by Members of the Dutch Parliament Mr. Pieter Omtzigt (CDA \u2013 Christian Democratic Appeal), Mr. Harry Van Bommel (SP \u2013 Socialist Party), Mr. Joel Voordewind (CU \u2013 Christian Union), Mr. Kees van der Staaij (SGP \u2013 Reformed Political Party) and Mr. Raymond de Roon (PVV \u2013 Party for Freedom) to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Social Affairs and Employment and Minister of Security and Justice.<\/p>\n

The questions included concerns about the organisation of the rally, which, according to pamphlets distributed on the day, was in part organised by Diyanet, \u201cThe Presidency of Religious Affairs\u201d of Turkey, which also offered free transportation by bus to the demonstration.<\/p>\n

There is an international consensus on the Armenian Genocide in academia. The Dutch parliament unanimously recognised the Armenian Genocide in 2004 (Motion by Mr. Rouvoet).<\/p>\n
