OTTAWA \u2013 Today, on Remembrance Day, we pause and solemnly remember and honour the lives of the brave Canadian men and women who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our freedoms, dignity and shared values of justice and democracy.<\/p>\n

Armenians who survived the Genocide and deportations from their ancestral lands early in the 20th century spread around the world in search of freedom and dignity. The sons and daughters of those who landed in Canada have proudly served Canada in every foreign mission dating from the First World War through Afghanistan and the present day.
\n<\/p>\n

Learning from the lessons of our own history, Armenian Canadians also have a moral obligation to remember and to pay tribute to the many unknown victims of war, of war crimes and of crimes against humanity. They, too, are amongst those brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our wellbeing today.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Armenian-Canadian community, The Armenian National Committee of Canada would like to thank the Canadian Government and its armed forces for the security and safety they bring to our community and our country from coast to coast. We remember and are grateful for the ultimate sacrifices of all those who have fallen on and off the battlefields to protect our welfare.<\/p>\n

This year, on the 104th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, we also remember and thank the Canadian civilians and missionaries who supported and saved Armenian lives in the Ottoman Empire during World War I and helped many of them build new lives in Canada.<\/p>\n

The ultimate sacrifice, of one\u2019s life, in defense of a nation, of peace, of freedom, is a sacrifice we must always remember and honour.<\/p>\n

Remembering the Armenian-Canadian soldiers of the World Wars<\/p>\n

Today, we mark Remembrance Day and the centennial of the end of the hostilities of the First World War. It was under the cover of World War I that the Armenian Genocide was undertaken in 1915. It was in the midst of the fighting that the Republic of Armenia declared its independence in 1918. It was the consequent peace process that vested the United States as an arbitrator for the new republic\u2019s border with Turkey, which was decided by President Woodrow Wilson.<\/p>\n

Often overlooked, however, is the contribution that Armenian-Canadians played in the Canadian Armed Forces during both the first and second world wars. Today, as we honour all those who put their life on the line to defend our freedom, let us also remember:<\/p>\n

The ANCC is the largest and the most influential Armenian-Canadian grassroots human rights organization. OTTAWA \u2013 Aujourd\u2019hui, en ce Jour national du Souvenir, prenons un peu de recul de nos vies de tous les jours et comm\u00e9morons solennellement la vie des braves Canadiens et Canadiennes qui se sont sacrifi\u00e9s pour la d\u00e9fense de notre libert\u00e9,de notre dignit\u00e9 et nos valeurs communes de justice et de d\u00e9mocratie.<\/p>\n

Les Arm\u00e9niens qui ont surv\u00e9cu au g\u00e9nocide et aux d\u00e9portations de leurs terres ancestrales au d\u00e9but du XXe si\u00e8cle se sont \u00e9parpill\u00e9s dans le monde entier \u00e0 la recherche de libert\u00e9 et de dignit\u00e9. Les filles et fils de ceux qui sont arriv\u00e9s au Canada ont fi\u00e8rement servi le Canada dans toutes les missions \u00e9trang\u00e8res depuis la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale jusqu\u2019\u00e0 nos jours, en passant par l\u2019Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Tirant les le\u00e7ons de leur propre histoire, les Canadiens d\u2019origine arm\u00e9nienne ont aussi l\u2019obligation morale de se souvenir et de rendre hommage aux nombreuses victimes inconnues de la guerre, des crimes de guerre et des crimes contre l\u2019humanit\u00e9. Eux aussi font partie de ces hommes et femmes courageux qui ont sacrifi\u00e9 leur vie pour notre bien-\u00eatre aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n

Au nom de la communaut\u00e9 arm\u00e9nienne du Canada, le Comit\u00e9 national arm\u00e9nien du Canada tient \u00e0 remercier le gouvernement canadien et ses forces arm\u00e9es pour la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et la s\u00fbret\u00e9 qu\u2019ils apportent \u00e0 notre communaut\u00e9 et \u00e0 notre pays, d\u2019un oc\u00e9an \u00e0 l\u2019autre. Nous nous souvenons des sacrifices de tous ceux qui sont tomb\u00e9s sur les champs de bataille afin de prot\u00e9ger notre bien-\u00eatre, et nous leur en sommes reconnaissants.<\/p>\n

Cette ann\u00e9e, \u00e0 l\u2019occasion du 104e anniversaire du g\u00e9nocide arm\u00e9nien, nous nous souvenons \u00e9galement des civils et des missionnaires canadiens qui ont appuy\u00e9 et sauv\u00e9 la vie des Arm\u00e9niens dans l\u2019Empire ottoman pendant la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale et qui ont aid\u00e9 bon nombre d\u2019entre eux \u00e0 b\u00e2tir une nouvelle vie au Canada.<\/p>\n

Le sacrifice ultime de la vie d\u2019une personne pour la d\u00e9fense d\u2019une nation, de la paix, de la libert\u00e9 est un sacrifice dont nous devons toujours honorer et nous en souvenir.<\/p>\n

\u00c0 la m\u00e9moire des soldats canadiens-arm\u00e9niens des deux guerres mondiales<\/p>\n

Aujourd\u2019hui, nous soulignons le Jour du souvenir et le centenaire de la fin des hostilit\u00e9s de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale. C\u2019est sous le couvert de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale que le g\u00e9nocide arm\u00e9nien a eu lieu en 1915. C\u2019est le processus de paix qui en a r\u00e9sult\u00e9 qui a conf\u00e9r\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis le r\u00f4le d\u2019arbitre pour la fronti\u00e8re de la nouvelle r\u00e9publique avec la Turquie, ce qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9cid\u00e9 par le pr\u00e9sident Woodrow Wilson.<\/p>\n

On oublie souvent, cependant, la contribution des Canadiens d\u2019origine arm\u00e9nienne au sein des Forces arm\u00e9es canadiennes pendant la Premi\u00e8re et la Seconde Guerre moniale.
