With a disproportionate number of policemen, over 300 people attended the rally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;This embassy, according to their own authorities, moved to Buenos Aires to battle against the local Armenian community. The Sumgait pogrom, like the 1915 genocide, not only remains unpunished, but also the Republic of Azerbaijan, like Turkey, denies it as a as a way of perpetuating the crime&#8221;, she added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">There was another <a title=\"Argentine-Armenian youth responds to Azeri provocations \" href=\"http:\/\/www.prensaarmenia.com.ar\/2014\/02\/argentine-armenian-youth-responds-to.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protest<\/a> two days before, when a group of young Argentine-Armenians tried to deliver a letter to Azeri diplomats, who were conducting a seminar entitled \u201cThe resolution of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan and its implications for the region.\u201d After the peaceful protest, the Azeri Foreign Ministry and the government controlled media tried to distort the purpose of the rally, saying that Armenians &#8220;tried to prevent the conduction of the event&#8221;. Azeri diplomats tried to do a similar media operation last year. The letter even said: &#8220;In Argentina governs the rule of law since 1983 and unlike what happens in Azerbaijan, it is possible to freely express. Con promesas de inversiones que nunca se concretan y con visiones de la historia que solo ellos sostienen, intentan instalar en una regi\u00f3n hist\u00f3ricamente solidaria con el pueblo armenio y con su di\u00e1spora, una visi\u00f3n favorable a sus intereses&#8221;, manifest\u00f3 la licenciada Florencia Zanikian, miembro de la organizaci\u00f3n juvenil, en su discurso.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La marcha, que convoca a la numerosa comunidad armenia en Argentina, se realiza peri\u00f3dicamente desde hace algunos a\u00f1os a la par de la marcha por el genocidio armenio, que se recuerda todos los 24 de abril.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;El pogromo de Sumgait, al igual que el genocidio de 1915, no solo contin\u00faa impune, sino que la Rep\u00fablica de Azerbaiy\u00e1n, al igual que el Estado turco, encuentran en el negacionismo una forma de perpetuar sus cr\u00edmenes&#8221;, agreg\u00f3 Zanikian.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Las masacres o \u201cpogromo\u201d de Sumgait ocurrieron entre el 26 y el 28 de febrero de 1988, cuando grupos paraestatales azer\u00edes impulsados por las autoridades irrumpieron en hogares armenios de la regi\u00f3n, destruyendo sus bienes y asesinando a las familias.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Durante los d\u00edas siguientes, las matanzas se expandieron hacia otras ciudades y poblados azer\u00edes, como Bak\u00fa y Kirovabad. Teniendo en cuenta la alianza hist\u00f3rica entre Azerbaiy\u00e1n y Turqu\u00eda, algunos historiadores consideran que estas masacres fueron la continuaci\u00f3n del genocidio armenio que llev\u00f3 a cabo el Imperio Turco-Otomano en 1915, y que se cobr\u00f3 la vida de 1.500.000 de personas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Estas matanzas se dieron a d\u00edas del inicio de los reclamos de autodeterminaci\u00f3n del pueblo armenio que viv\u00eda en Nagorno Karabagh, una regi\u00f3n hist\u00f3ricamente poblada por armenios, pero que hab\u00eda sido entregada a Azerbaiy\u00e1n por la Uni\u00f3n Sovi\u00e9tica en 1921. El conflicto desemboc\u00f3 en una guerra que se extendi\u00f3 hasta 1994, cuando las fuerzas de Nagorno Karabaj y de Armenia vencieron al ej\u00e9rcito azer\u00ed.
